Sex and the Sickbed Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Sex and the Sickbed - Essay Example Death is one such feeling that is not easily dealt by individuals under differential circumstances. The story ‘Sex and the Sickbed’ also mentions the same ideology of a partner losing out to another’s sexual needs and thus dying prematurely. This is a very unfortunate act which has happened for all the wrong reasons, as far as the story is concerned. The story is therefore a depiction of how a person meets the most significant challenges of his life. This has been stated within the story itself where Jennifer had to undergo pain because Neil had died and thus she had lost her as a partner. What Jennifer missed about Neil the most was that they would not be able to enjoy their sex life in the future which was a source of happiness for both of them. However, this will not suffice in the coming times as death has prevailed for the couple and they have parted ways through natural means. The case with human life is no different. One of the most disadvantageous aspects of human life is that it has to come to an end unexpectedly. This has been proven with the advent of time as people die every now and then, and hence their lives finish with others having dear hopes from them. There is a dire need to find out how these challenges can be addressed with the changing times (Rosenthal, 2009, 61). This is because the challenges change and hence the requirements alter as well. However, death is one significant mark that leaves a lot to be desired of as far as the human disposition is concerned. One must fathom the true meaning of death before commenting on it, and more so within the story of â€Å"Sex and the Sickbed†. The story gives a very true picture of how Jennifer would have to deal with Neil’s untimely death and what the consequences would be in the long range scheme of things. Neil left an indelible mark on the mind of Jennifer who is unable to deal with it and thinks of the sex life that they shared. With this, one easily understand s how complicated it is to make-do with life’s varied complexes and challenges that come about every now and then. Prioritizing them as the most important amongst the several ones is an arduous task, and more so when the discussion is centered on the story â€Å"Sex and the Sickbed†. This is because for Jennifer, Neil’s death is something that comes out as a serious and grave problem which shall remain with her entirety until the time she is alive. Not only is she missing Neil, she would have to miss the sex life that they shared as well. These are distressing times for Jennifer and she must come to terms with the same, the sooner the better for her own self (Author Unknown, 2007). The challenges keep on becoming bigger as the responsibility increases upon one’s own self. However, there are different implications for the people under varied circumstances as has been proven true in the story â€Å"Sex and the Sickbed† itself. Thus what is required n ow is a perceptual change in understanding that things need to be comprehended well before they are seen as being difficult or complex in entirety. This will solve a number of issues and concerns which have been coming on to the horizon, and more so within the lives of the people in the times much like today. In the end, it would be sound to state that the story hits the nail on the head. This is because people feel that the most complex problems could be ascertained if only the gravity of the quagmire is found out. This takes place through an understanding about the features which hurt the most and which shall create uproar for all the wrong reasons. The story is also judgmental as far as comprehending how the problems could be tackled, if and only if there is a collective understanding to bring about resolutions for the sake of sanctity in this world. Personality of Alan Mulally The personality can be judge on the basis of five fundamental elements which is known as the Big Five Dimensions of personality. The researcher of personality has projected the fundamental feature for evaluation of a personality (Coon, 2009). This theory is growing since the last 50 years. The big five is a broad class of personality traits which reflects a personality or behavior of an individual. The five categories are discussed as follows: Extraversion: It includes character of an individual as, sociability, assertiveness, talkativeness, and excitability and high level of ‘emotional expressiveness’. Alan Mulally’s style of leadership is to approach employees to attain the company’s objectives is participative style. This style engages Alan Mulally along with other executives while taking the decision related to the company. The process of decision making helps to determine executives to do their work in an appropriate way to achieve the common goals. However, Alan Mulally has given an authority to their executives to contribute in the process of deci

Relationship Between China and Costa Rica

Relationship Between China and Costa Rica Foreign policy in Costa Rica: The international community was shocked in 2007 when Costa Rica, recognized as the Switzerland of Central America for its promotion of democracy and pacifism,[1] decided to establish relations a country of opposite values such as human rights suppression and communism, China. In responses, Taiwan cut its ties with Costa Rica. With its unarmed identity, Costa Rica has always looking to broaden international alliances. This time, however, there were many critics both domestically and internationally. President Arias (2006-2010) responded to the public critics, questing if democracies like the United States found no contradiction in establishing relations with China, then why should Costa Rica?[2] After all, Costa Rica’s move towards engaging China was not unpredictable. Only three months into his first term (1986-1990) in presidency, Arias made a bold decision to move the Costa Rican embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. According to Arias, the embassy’s location in Jerusalem kept Costa Rica isolated from the Arab world, and it was time to correct a historical mistake. Plus, he believed that having the Costa Rican embassy in Jerusalem limited Costa Rica’s relations with the Arab world.[3] The switch of diplomatic relations with Taiwan On June 6, 2007, [4]president Arias has announced the decision of the government to switch its relations from Taiwan to China after 67 years of stable foreign relations. In the 2007 agreement, China is going to give Costa Rica an additional $130 million in direct economic aid, as well as a two-stage bond purchase. [5] In this agreement, Costa Rica not only has the recognition of China, but also the support from China to knock on the door of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Security Council of the United Nations. Arias, the former Nobel Prize winner,[6] claimed that the decision was neither for the short-term economic benefits nor the changes of ideology, but rather a rational foreign policy decision of realism. President Arias also stated that the recognition of new relations with china coincided with the principle and purpose in the UN Charter.[7] Costa Rica has been able to earn a good reputation and image that has allowed it to use its advantages in the international community by providing effective suggestions ranging from its contribution to disarmament to its role as an environmental sanctuary. Since taking office, President Arias has led the country to taking a more active role in the international arena. As a country without an army, Costa Rica has a higher value of security of the international level. The Costa Rican government believes that ties with China will not only boost the economic development domestically, but more specifically provide a powerful force to eliminate underdevelopment in some rural areas. On an international scale, Costa Rican government has envisioned the deeper integration in the world economywith the mutual communication with Beijing. For example, President Arias wants to get the Chinese support for Costa Rica’s bid for a seat on the UN Security Council.[8] By 2009, China stood second in terms of trade volume with the Costa Rica, and it stood rank 30 in 2000. (see Table 1.) While Costa Rica now admittedly views China as more beneficial than Taiwan, Costa Rica’s bilateral trade with the East Asian giant began a decade before establishment of formal relations. The exports from Costa Rica to China heavily dominated by computer parts, electronic chips, which allowed the country to achieve a small trade surplus in its relationship with the emerging super power in Asia. This was the only the beginning of the China’s economic benefits for Costa Rica, and the profits stood in stark contrast to what Taiwan could provide. China is recognized as a potential global power, and will be the second super power in the United Nations. That is why Costa Rica also values the embassy in Beijing after the one in Washington. With regards to Taiwan, the country is now concerned that the Costa Rican move will cause a chain reaction in the future of its region. Table 1. Costa Rican Relations with Taiwan Arias had said, â€Å"I was always critical of the Taiwanese, and I can say now that I always told them: If you want to have friends in the world, you should be more generous.†[9] In the late 1960s, Taiwan had relations with almost 70 countries. But China joined the United Nations after Taiwan was expelled from it,[10]and the country lost many allies. As of 2014, Central America and the Caribbean region host 12 of the 22 countries globally which retain ties with Taiwan.[11]Therefore, the loss of a Central American partner was a particularly painful blow for Taiwans foreign relations development, and led to the immediate resignation of the Foreign Minister, James Huang. The Taiwanese government has routinely contributeddevelopment aid routinely to create the strong association withCosta Rica over 67 years.[12]Nevertheless, the Costa Rican government began publicly cooling its relations with Taiwan in May of 2007 when the country abstained on Taiwan’s accession in the World Health Organization (WHO). The Costa Rican government’s attempt at rethinking its relations with Taiwan began to receive criticism from the media as a betrayal of democratic pri nciples. One of the reasons for the longevity of Costa Rica and Taiwan’s relationship was the development assistance the small Asian country provided. The country received $341 million in assistance from Taiwan from2000 to 2005,[13]which wasenough to make it Costa Rica’s second largest source of bilateral cooperation. The majority of resources from Taiwan came in the type of loans, and was allocated intopublic infrastructure. For example, it was Taiwan’s assistance that rebuilt an entire wing of public hospitals in San Josà ©, which was destroyed in an arson fire in 2004.[14]In addition, Taiwan built a long bridge in order to assist the transportation development from rural to urban areas. However, even with Taiwan’s prosperous economy, it still cannot compete with the huge investments of China. This explains President Arias’s claims about Taiwan losing the game of â€Å"dollar diplomacy†; Taiwan’s funds could not compete with those of China. Chinese-Costa Rican relations On March 2011, there was a celebration of the new state stadium in San Josà ©. It was constructed on the previous smaller stadium; the new 35,000-person stadium represents the result of national development. The shape of its roof resembles the appearance of coffee bean, the commodity of which Costa Rica is proudest, demonstrated in modern iconic style. In order to reminisce the â€Å"Bird’s nest† Olympic stadium in Beijing, the nick name of the stadium is â€Å"Nido Tico† or â€Å"Costa Rican’s nest.†[15]The stadium was a symbol of recognition of new relations with China in 2007. In addition, the $100 million stadium, China bought $300 million in Costa Rica bonds, assisted renewal of a Caribbean-bound highway, and facilitated the construction of a major oil refinery. Furthermore, Costa Rica ratified a new free trade agreement with China allowing over 90% of its goods tariff-free entry into the Chinese market in 2011. Chinese diplomats were very eager to proceed with the negotiation. This was a long awaited opportunity for China, as it turns Costa Rica into a regional case that shows other Central American countries in similar positions the benefits they can get from forming relations with China. The evidence showed that the bilateral trade with China, which has provided more broad economic chance with Costa Rica, has been in effect since 2000. In 2008, they began the China-Costa Rica free trade negotiations during the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao Costa Rica.[16]The China-Costa Rica FTA features a high degree of the open market. Over 90 percent of goods trade between China and Costa Rica will enjoy zero tariff on a stage-by-stage basis.[17]From that point, China was considered as an important trade partner. The trade links, however, had grown rapidly in the past years even without the official diplomatic relations. The cooperation and exchange of agricultural technology is promising for China is agricultural development within its huge territory. For Costa Rica, it has the advantage of biodiversity and flourishing plants bred through the weather. Therefore, the research institutions of Costa Rica and China have an agreementto promote cooperation in agricultural science in 2013.[18] Under the mutual agreement, both sides will facilitate the exchange programs forresearchers, increase the scholarships for agriculture students, and enhancefrequency of information exchange on agricultural science and technology. Also, the institutions in both countries will also cooperate to work on research on animals, plant genetics, environmental preservation, pest and disease control, agricultural economy and rural development. This is an ideal opportunity for Costa Rica to maximize agricultural and environmental advantages through the financial support from China. Costa Rican has also learned a lesson from China after the stadium has finished. Local media reports admired the incredible high-tech stadium, which was finished 3 months ahead before the schedule. The efficiency and industriousness of the Chinese workers has surprised the Costa Ricans. Due to the different geographical areas, Costa Rican was not familiar with Chinese culture. By this chance, they saw how China rises to power with its proactive and diligent attitude, but also they felt how the authoritarianism of China affects the policy. For example: there were only Chinese laborers could enter the construction areas. Conclusion Costa Rica has been benefited by both Taiwan and China. Taiwan has offered considerable resources for the development of Costa Rica, and helped them to step on their foothold on the ladder of development for over the past six decades. As one of the few nation states lacking an army, it has carefully protected itself by relying on the support from international community, and also they take advantage of the soft power with its dynamic diplomatic relations. There are also the new perspective of China which were transmitted by the positive work ethic and efficiency of Chinese laborers who constructed the new stadium. It offered a distinctive picture to modify the previous negative perceptions of China in Costa Rica. In the future, there will be probably more potential international market development besides coffee and electronics (see Table 2.) for Costa Rica though it is not clear those sectors in Costa Rica might have better chance favored by the huge Chinese market, but it hopes to attack foreign direct investment in the region. The Metamorphosis as a Depiction of Franz Kafkas Life Essay -- Kafka

The Metamorphosis as a Depiction of Franz Kafka's Life The Metamorphosis is said to be one of Franz Kafka's best works of literature. It shows the difficulties of living in a modern society and the struggle for acceptance of others when in a time of need. In this novel Kafka directly reflects upon many of the negative aspects of his personal life, both mentally and physically. The relationship between Gregor and his father is in many ways similar to Franz and his father Herrman. The Metamorphosis also shows resemblance to some of Kafka's diary entries that depict him imagining his own extinction by dozens of elaborated methods. This paper will look into the text to show how this is a story about the author's personal life portrayed through his dream-like fantasies. Franz Kafka grew up in a financially secure Jewish family in Prague. He spoke German and was neither a Czech nor German due to his Jewish upbringing. Born in 1883, he was the eldest child and the only son. He lived his life in the shadow of his dominating father under constant pressure to take over the family business. Kafka's father viewed Franz as a failure and disapproved of his writing because he wanted Franz to become a business man like him. This obsession with wanting Franz to become a businessman led Herrman to beat his son. Franz Kafka died on June 3, 1924 from tuberculosis of the larynx. From the moment we meet Gregor Samsa's father we are shown how short tempered he is. He "came on, hissing like a wild man" when Gregor first exited his room in his new state as a bug. Gregor's father chased after him with a cane and newspaper making a hissing noise that annoyed Gregor. Just this passage here shows how alike Mr. Samsa and Herrman Kafka are. Kafka was... ...appened so often during the times he was trying to write, it happened unknowingly. When comparing Franz Kafka and his personal life to The Metamorphosis it is obvious in more ways than one that he was writing a twisted story of his life. The emotional and physical abuse Gregor goes through are similar to what Kafka went through in real life. They were both abused and neglected by their fathers when they were disappointed with them. Kafka uses Gregor transforming into a bug as a way of exaggerating himself, trying to express his feelings and point of view. When writing, Kafka felt as if he was trapped in his room which he referred to as "the noise headquarters of the apartment". Gregor was an exaggeration of this because he could not leave the house to escape the noises and abuse. Works Cited: Kafka, Franz. The Metamorphosis. Mattituck: Vanguard Press, 1946.

Kite Runner †Religion Roles/How Political Events Effect Characters Essay

3. In the novel The Kite Runner, the author Khaled Hosseini rarely mentions religion, but in a way, it plays a big role in the growth of the main character, Amir. In the beginning of the novel, Amir first questions his religion. Either he can listen to a â€Å"mullah† who taught that drinking was a sin, or he can listen to his more westernized father who thinks that religion is meaningless and drinks for his enjoyment. As one works their way through the novel, religion at first appears as a minor role, and eventually evolves into a much greater role in the life of Amir. The first important instance of Religion, appears in chapter three when Amir learns about sin and drinking. â€Å"Mullah Fatiullah Khan†, a teacher who taught Amir about Islam, said that â€Å"Islam considered drinking a terrible sin†, and that drinkers would one day answer for this on â€Å"the day of Qiyamat, Judgment Day†. Amir tells Baba, Amir’s father, about what he learned and Baba responds by saying that Amir has â€Å"confused what [he’s] learning in school with actual education†, says that â€Å"no matter what the mullah teaches, there is only one sin†, and that one sin was theft. Killing, cheating, lying, were all variations of theft. Amir blames himself for killing his mother, and believed that Baba hated him for this. Many people seek forgiveness through religion, but at this point of the novel, Amir has no idea which religion he should turn to. This young Amir seems as if he is indifferent toward Religion, and maybe might not care for it as a traditional follower of Islam would. Even though it seems this way, he will carry religion with him throughout the novel and will become a greater part in his life as he matures. In chapter twenty-four of The Kite Runner, Amir talks to the American Embassy about adopting Sohrab, Hassan’s son that Amir rescues from a Taliban official, and a man says that Sohrab is going to need to go to an orphanage again. Sohrab did not like the idea of being in an orphanage again and tries to commit suicide by slitting his wrists. Amir is able to get Sohrab to the hospital, then finds a white bed sheet and locates west so that he could pray. When he puts his forehead to the ground, he remembers that he hasn’t â€Å"prayed for over fifteen years† and has â€Å"long forgotten the words† but it did not matter to him. He then speaks the words he still did remember. In his prayer he says that he can now see that â€Å"Baba was wrong† and prays for forgiveness of his sins, betrayal, and lies. Amir promises to become a good follower and for his last words he asks for one last thing and says, â€Å"My hands are stained with Hassan’s blood; I pray God doesn’t let them get stained with the blood of his boy too. † I stated previously that many people seek for forgiveness through religion. For most of Amir’s life, guilt was carried with him and was never able to forgive himself. When he was in times of need, like his father’s diagnosis or Sohrab’s suicide attempt, he sought to his faith. This shows that Amir unconsciously also carried his faith throughout his life. Amir is a very introverted main character, but when he turns to his faith, the reader is truly aware of his feelings. Amir needs to believe in god to provide an agent for forgiveness. His faith will finally allow him to forgive himself, and will ultimately make Amir become more mature, and a man like his father. Months later on a Sunday morning, Amir gets out of bed and prays the â€Å"morning namaz†, and did not â€Å"have to consult the prayer pamphlet†. He says that â€Å"the verses came naturally now†. This shows that Amir has now accepted his faith and has grown from it. Amir’s religion and guilt played hand in hand with another. By reconciling and coming to terms with his betrayal of Hassan, he can finally now embrace Islam. 2. In the years of 1978 and before, Afghanistan was a peaceful country. The citizens relatively had freedoms, but with the arrival of the Russians and Taliban, these freedoms were to diminish. These political changes in Afghanistan have a direct effect on the characters lives in The Kite Runner. In chapter five, one reads about the first shootings that Amir hears. There were gun shots and explosions in the streets that lasted less than an hour. Those were â€Å"foreign sounds† to the Afghan people then. â€Å"The generation of Afghan children whose ears would know nothing but the sounds of bombs and gunfire was not yet born. † Amir then states that â€Å"The end, the official end, would come first in April 1978 with the communist coup d’etat, and then in December 1979, when Russian tanks would roll into the very same streets where Hassan and I played, bringing the death of the Afghanistan I knew and marking the start of a still ongoing era of bloodletting. † This is the part of the story where everything begins to change for the characters in The Kite Runner. The communist takeover of Afghanistan would drive Baba and Amir, along with other privileged class, into exile. The political situation in Afghanistan had led to a point where â€Å"you couldn’t trust anyone in Kabul anymore† and â€Å"for a fee†¦ people told on each other†. Dead bodies would turn up on the sides of the streets with bullets in their heads. Baba had to then make arrangements for him and Amir to flee to Pakistan. Baba and Amir would have to leave their old life behind them. Baba would have to leave his life of luxury and wealth. Amir left behind his childhood life, and left his betrayal of Hassan in Kabul, which will carry with him throughout the novel. Amir states that â€Å"For me, America was a place to bury my memories. For Baba, a place to mourn his. † When they settled in Fremont, California, Baba has a hard time fitting in and would eventually become unhappy working at a gas station. Amir on the other hand will have the opportunity to go to school and graduate college. The move to America is a set back for Baba, but for Amir, it will allow him to grow as a man. Amir would eventually return to Kabul in search for his nephew Sohrab. When Amir sees the streets of Kabul, he noticed that they are flooded with beggars. â€Å"They squatted at every street corner, dressed in shredded burlap bags, mud-caked hands held out for a coin. † The shocking thing here is that these beggars are mostly children, no older than six or five sitting at the laps of their mothers. Amir states that â€Å"the wars had made fathers a rare commodity in Afghanistan. † Hosseini paints a picture of the living situation that Amir’s half-brother Hassan was stuck to live with. Hassan was not privileged enough to flee, and had to live in this war torn Afghanistan. Amir’s nephew Sohrab is one of the unfortunate children that is born into a life of gun fire, explosion, and poverty. It is up to Amir to become a man and find â€Å"a way to be good again. †

Theyve also grown rapidly in their scope and extent of use, significantly affecting all aspects of our lives. Industries such as manufacturing, travel and tourism, banking, education, Olympic Games and government are Web-enabled to improve and enhance their operations. Web-based information systems (WIS) are information systems (IS) that are based on Web technology and they are integrated with conventional IS such as databases and transaction processing systems (Chen Heath, 2001; Isakowitz, Bieber, Vitali, 1998). Nowadays there is a rise in the amount of readymade web based information systems available in the form of content management systems, which can easily be integrated into an organisations existing information system to provide solutions (e-commerce, social networking, file sharing etc.) to the information needs of individuals and the organisation. Beynon-Davies 2002, states; It has become something of a truism that the success of an organisation is dependent on its information systems. As Web applications have evolved, the demands placed on Web-based systems and the complexity of designing, developing, maintaining, and managing these systems have also increased significantly. For example, Web sites such as for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, 1998 Nagano Olympics, and Wimbledon received hundreds of thousands of hits per minute (Ginige and Murugesan, 2001). They provided vast, dynamic information in multiple media formats (graphics, images, and video). Web site design for these and many other applications demand balance among information content, aesthetics, and performance. 1.2  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Key Phrases Olympic Games, Web-Based Information System, Content Management System Internet, Web technology, Database, Dynamic Information, Media Formats 1.3  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Aims and objectives To investigate Web-Based Information Systems with a view to understanding how they work, including concepts, methods, tools and techniques used for developing them. Activities: read literature on Web-Based Information Systems; learn how they operate and also the kind of technologies they are associated with. Deliverables: Section for report To review a selection of different Web-Based Information Systems, investigating their characteristics, similarities, mode of operation and technologies associated with them. The London 2012 Olympic Games would be used as part of an internship arrangement with Atos Origin will be used as a typical example with the requirements and specifications built around its particular needs. The front end of the system will be aimed at the general users (i.e. athletes, media agencies and Journalist) with success measured by its ability to cater to their information needs in real time. The back end will be content management system for the staff (Olympic Local Organising Committee), including all the functions necessary for the smooth running of the Olympic Games. There will be no attempt to develop a full working system to be able to connect to pre-existing IT systems within the organisation, but a proto-type system using similar data types, structures and web technologies. The system will not be designed with scalability in mind however the need will be discussed in the report; As there are several legal, ethical and data right issues which would be discussed in the report, it will be assumed that the data to be used would be of dummy values and not the real thing, therefore the analysis of which applications to use will be conducted on open source software only. The web-based information system will consist of a website with the content and structure being determined by the requirements of the Olympic Games. The front end will be a mixture of both static and dynamic information content which is constantly being updated via the Olympic Local Organising Committee databases (in my case, I would create a replica database with a similar data structure) to allow customisation by the users. 1.5 Literature review The Olympic Games are a complex mix of technology, processes and people. Not only is there the scale and complexity of the project, covering many clients, sites and systems, but it is also a multi-supplier project with many varied dependencies. Furthermore, the whole event is highly visible and the world is watching. And where victory is measured by the smallest margin, there are no second chances! (Source: www.uk.atosorigin.com) The company Atos Origin’s challenge is to create an IT solution for each Olympic Games that allows the capture and reporting of every moment of the action and supports in bringing it to the world via television and the Internet, first time, every time! This requires a blend of specialist skills and experience backed up by a complete understanding of just what the organisers, competitors and audience expect. (Source: www.uk.atosorigin.com) Teams are created to work on client projects, each which have their own budgets, sets of deliverables and timescales. The management of a project is a vital task, as is the coordination of staff resources across a portfolio of current projects whilst ensuring their delivery on time and within budget. As lead integrator, project manager and IT operations manager, Atos Origin is ultimately responsible for the entire IT infrastructure of the Games. The focus is on three key IT areas: Security and Risk Management Games Management Systems Information Diffusion Systems Marchand et al (2000) note that â€Å"Information technology improves business performance only if combined with competent information management and the right behaviours and values.† They go on to conclude that   Companies with high information orientation have focused on getting IT support for key processes in place to manage customer and product information for all aspects of the Games. From this base, the company has developed sophisticated systems and databases for Security and Risk Management, Games Management and Information Diffusion. (Marchand et al 2000). The difference between modelling conventional Information Systems (IS) and modelling Web-Based Information Systems (WIS) is significant. Modelling conventional IS addresses their structured data requirements and process functions within the organisation. Its key concerns are general structured data and processes. On the other hand, a WIS operates to support networked organisations in the integration of specialised Web sites into a common set of tasks for them. Organisational computing network properties are the major focus of WIS. Since WIS and conventional business IS (i.e., data processing systems, management report systems, and decision support systems) normally overlap, the general components of ordinary IS such as structured data (databases), models (model bases), and groupware for decision making can also serve as general components of a WIS.(Wang, 2001) There is a clear difference between a set of Web pages and a WIS in that a WIS supports business process and is usually tightly integrated with other IS. The recent development of WIS suggests that they are revolutionising commerce (Tenenbaum, 1998). They have become tools for online business processing. Also, software agents, content management systems are emerging in WIS to exploit the features of online transactions (Wong, Paciorek, Moore, 1999). WIS can also be viewed as database applications for structured as well as semi-structured data (Arocena Mendelzon, 1998); in fact, the Web has become a major resource for supporting multimedia active documents and developing and sharing knowledge structure collaboratively over the Internet (Gaines Shaw, 1999). Since business IS are migrating from batch processing, time-sharing, and client-server computing to WIS, information infrastructure of the organisations has become a crucial factor in WIS development (Detlor, 2000) The benefits of this experience can be brought to this dissertation project through best practices in areas such as consortium and project management, content and knowledge management, risk driven management, change management, data centres and IT Security. 1.6 Methodology According to CMS (2008), â€Å"a system development methodology refers to the framework that is used to structure, plan, and control the process of developing an information system i.e. the waterfall model, the prototyping model, the spiral etc.† In the context of this project the waterfall model would be used as the framework for development, while an iterative prototyping approach would be used to assist the design, implementation and unit testing. (CMS, 2008) These two approaches were chosen because; The project has to be divided into sequential phases; using the waterfall model where the outcome of one phase is used as the source of input for the next phase i.e. the output from the analysis phase forms the bases of input for the design phase. This is helpful but also causes some delays, because if one phase is not completed the other cannot be started. The waterfall model would also assisted in maintaining tight control over the documentation, because each section of the report would be created as the phase was carried out and approvals and checks would be made to ensure I am on the right track before starting a new phase. (CMS, 2008) The iterative prototyping approach would helped combine both the waterfall and prototyping models allowing me go forward and also retrace my steps where needed. The iterative prototyping would also assist while implementing the product, because the coding could start while the phases are not complete as a mare prototype, which would be improved upon as the design and requirements are stated and analysed further. This would help save time lost using the waterfall model and also provide a platform for unit testing of the product, because each individual component of the system would be tested in turn before the entire application is put together and tested. (CMS, 2008) These approaches have also been justified by; Yeung and Brent Hall (2007), stating that an iterative approach is most suitable for this type of project due to the fact that specification cannot be determined precisely in advance. This would help develop, implement and test the functionality of the systems individual units before the whole system is put together. Coad and Yourdon (1991) also suggested that prototyping should be used for all object-oriented projects. 1.8 Work Plan 1.9   Resources To develop this Web-Based information system, an appropriate computing system with access to internet is required. Some Integrated development environment (Visual Studio, WAMP Server) is required for design and programming, such as CMS (for example, joomla), SQL, JavaScript, PHP server, etc. Also access to the Universities libraries would be needed and Suitable Software Development Tools. Universities computing facilities and my personal computer would be used for all aspects of development and preparing the report. Access to Atos Origins databases, facilities, applications would be needed to gain an understanding of how their existing system works and the required data structure and transfer facilities. 1.10   Ethics and confidentiality The major problem I would have is gaining access to the company’s existing databases and systems, due to the sensitive nature of the data and the company’s intellectual property right, I have opted to ask for permission only to view their data structure and create a mock up data base from it with dummy data values, which would not cause any issues for me or the company if am allowed to. Also most of my research would be done based on open-source systems which are readily available online and my design solution would only be similar in nature to the companies and not the real thing, because my role on the internship is not to help with the creation of the system to be used but to test and monitor its performance and help correct errors and develop documents. My prototype solution is not intended to be used by the company, but is for me to learn how such projects are undertaken and designed. Initial References Beynon-Davis P. To: Mrs. Rania Singh, Customer Service Agent. Subject: To obey recommendations discussed in the memo The propaganda of this memorandum is to give an insight on the changes in the information provided to the future prospect for business. The change in policy will help in the betterment of the service provided by the organization to its clients. The agents of Sigma Global are advised to get approval of the material prepared for local marketing and advertising. As it is the most basic and initial projection of the organization to the local clients. Agents are warned and adhered to avoid unethical advertising and marketing to lure prospect clients. False information to the students will hampers relationship with the organization and is not acceptable at any cost. Agents should understand that we aim to guide the student and not to mislead them. It will result in Agents termination if found guilty of charge It had brought into our attention that our clients are finding it difficult to comprehend to the information on different services provided by the organization. To clear their misunderstanding it is necessary from our behalf to change the rules and policy to enlighten the student in a language that they would understand and comprehend best. Students are finding it difficult to understand the answer of few basic questions, which should have been clearly delta with by out agents. It is it important from our behalf to help the student choose the best university as per their need and preferences. To start with, agents should make the student comfortable and ask question regarding different aspect of their need and requirement. Agents should work on the soft skills and try to build repo with the student to understand their want. The inquiry should be conducted in a conversation manner so that it will make students comfortable and help them to easily interact and convey their requirement once that phase is cleared, the agent will now ask about the education qualification and would try to understand what the student want to pursue and from where. If the student have proper knowledge about the course and the institution he want to opt from the Agent will then ask related and relevant question to understand all the requirement o f the student and will try to suggest best alternative if needed. Agents are requested that student with no proper knowledge about courses and universities should be approached with calm and willing to help attitude as it will make them ease and help them open up. We want to make them understand that we are willing to help and shying away will hinder the process. Agents will ask these students about their aspiration and motivation and would try to figure the reason they want to study abroad. In addition, once the agent, relevant information about the course, understands it and university which will help accomplish the desired results should be provided. Agents are asked to provide information of the relevant universities and colleges offering the degree the student require as well as clear overview of all the other alternatives, the ranking of different universities as well as eligibility of different universities based on merit list should be made clear to the students from agents end.   Agents are requested to ask question about financial stability and source of income from students to help them acquire the best university and accommodation facility whilst their stay abroad. Agents are requested to represent all the universities and colleges in equal and fair manner to the students, so that it would look like as a choice given to the student to choose upon. It will give the versatility to the student to determine the place and the university he would like to opt. Agents are request to make students understand that studying aboard is all about practical implementation and usage of the education. It is equally important from student’s behalf to look into the different recreational activities and co-curricular prospects given by different universities and fun learning sessions provided by the universities. Agents are informed that it is necessary to understand the need of student’s requirement about the stay and the option we have and can provide to the s tudents. Accommodation advice to the student should be accurate and must be exactly as promised. It is important that the expectation that they will have about the accommodation met as per requirement or else it will hamper the after sale service which will again lose us prospective clients. Agents are requested to inform students about all the facilities that can be availed from the organization and it is important for the agents to advice the students taking admission in the distant universities and colleges about the transportation facility which can be availed by them from our organization. Agents should let the students know that we are providing a substantial amount to every student to help them start in the new country, which can be utilized for the transportation allowance. The initial transportation fee will be given special discount of 20% if booked with the full amount of admission fee and rest of the expenses. Agents are informed that students need assurance about the un iversity and the value of degree after completion of the course. It is necessary to provide proper information about placement cell and universities previous record of accomplishment agents should bring students attention about important rules and regulation, which needs to be mandated by the students in the country they will go for studies. Agents are warned again about providing false hopes, guarantee of permanent visa and work placement to attract the student is wrong practice, and Agent should avoid it. Honesty to build strong relationship with the students during the application process creates a transparency about the procedure. Honesty is a virtue and same is the motto of the organization so Agents should uphold companies values to its clients Olaleke, O.O., Taiye, T.T. and Olumide, E.O., 2014. Debating Globalisation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words - 2

Debating Globalisation - Essay Example Stiglitz, in his 2002 book â€Å"Globalization and its Discontents,† argues that globalisation can be a â€Å"force of good,† but it has to be â€Å"radically rethought† (Stiglitz, 2002: ix-x), particularly after being mismanaged by three global institutions, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the WB, and the IMF, that made globalization a deceitful tool for the advancement of developed countries. This paper critically assesses his views on globalization. It argues that Stiglitz provides compelling evidence that globalization has failed, because the main international institutions that were supposed to manage it failed as well; however, he neglects social, cultural and religious factors that are important in making globalization work and his suggestions are not entirely workable. For the WTO, WB, and IMF, globalisation works, because it has economically integrated countries and enabled the â€Å"free flow† of goods, services, information, and capital all over the world. On the one hand, Stiglitz agrees, because he provides an economic perspective when he defines globalisation as â€Å"the removal of barriers to free trade and the closer integration of national economies† (2002: ix). ... He provides the examples of East Asian countries, which before the interventions from the IMF, were making globalisation work for them (Stiglitz, 2004: 203). They did this by exporting to other countries, closing the technological gap, and then ensuring that the fruits of globalisation were equitably distributed among their citizens (Stiglitz, 2004: 203). East Asian governments took an active role in managing the economy, which was far from the tenets of rapid liberalisation, privatisation, and deregulation of the IMF and WTO (Stiglitz, 2002, 2007). These governments managed the slow transition to deregulation and protected key industries. At the same time, they also provide safety nets for those who will be disadvantaged by free trade (Stiglitz, 2002, 2007). On the other hand, Stiglitz’s positive understanding of globalisation changed after serving the WB and the IMF. In an interview led by Stern (2006), Stiglitz remembers asserting to the WB that he will represent the intere sts of the developing countries and not the WB: â€Å"When I accepted the job, I said that I would do it only if I could be a spokesperson for the developing countries, not for the World Bank.† He believes that he took the job, because he would be free to express himself as an economist, and not as an advocate and public relations personnel of the WB. He underlines that his â€Å"effectiveness as a chief economist depended on people believing it was my analysis† (Stern, 2006). Within the organisation, however, Stiglitz gathers evidence that prove the contrary to the belief that the world is flat and that globalisation works. His analysis showed that

Individual critical review report - Essay Example Some of the common changes that many students experience changes in culture, language and system of education. This was not any different in my case. The various changes experienced can be behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic and humanistic; having an influence in personal strengths and weaknesses whose understanding is important in future career development and improvement. Personality Change Theories Philosophy, Psychology and sociology theorists and experts have always claimed that personality of a person can change in certain circumstances. Changes can occur when a person relocates to another place, which is different from the region they are used to or when they decide they are going to make changes in some things about themselves. Personality change when a person relocates to another place is based on the theories discussed hereafter. Behavioral This is simply the change of behavior of a person either towards something for improvement or change of environment. Change of environ ment especially comes with its own challenges. Things may be different in the new environment compared to the environment a person is used to. The person has to imitate the behavior and actions of the people in the new environment to fit in and survive. ... For college students, they fall under the category of young adults which according to Erikson ranges from twenty to thirty nine years. This stage is based on two characteristics, intimacy and isolation. Erikson states that this stage is important for people within that age bracket to have good relationships with other people. The consequence of this is two outcomes; intimacy or isolation. People, who learn how to connect with other people, share with them what their feelings and to appreciate their viewpoints and perspectives on different issues get intimacy. They have people they can always look up to when they need them. On the other hand, people who do not develop good relationships with other people do not have anyone to connect to or look up to. They live on their own in isolation (Schultz and Schultz, 2004). The consequences of Erikson’s theory of psychological development have a lot of impact on the people. While people who have intimate relations are usually happy and stress free, those that live in isolation are likely to be depressed making them to engage in activities that are not good for instance substance abuse. Basing on this psychological development theory by Erikson, I have learned to interact with people from across the world for the time I have been studying abroad. I have developed relations with many people that I met at the University. I believe I have understood them to the fullest and they have also understood my personality. There was a lot of fulfillment I experienced by sharing my joy, issues and challenges with the friend I have made at college. I have learned to appreciate every person as we were from different cultural, ethnic

Role of Independent Non-Executive Directors Essay

Role of Independent Non-Executive Directors - Essay Example Perhaps the most summarized in the Federal Law "On Joint Stock Companies", which refers primarily to the independence of Board members from the management. Incidentally, the definition of "independence" of directors is given in Sec. 9, "The interest in the commission of public transactions," so this definition can be regarded as purely utilitarian. A much more detailed vision of independent directors make the Code of Conduct and the Association of investor protection . Last added to the list of groups that should not affect the directors, yet the state, as well as major shareholders and partners of the company. Perhaps, except for employees (excluding top management), lists all of steykholde-ditch. However, if we take into account our current realities, placing the company's employees to the stakeholders (directly or through participation in trade unions) will be more a tribute to the generally accepted world practice, rather than a reflection of reality (Arbouw, 2004, pp. 8). Thus, in the most general case, it can be argued that an independent director is independent from all stakeholder groups. Of course, there is a statistic that confirms that the involvement of independent directors correlates with the high efficiency of enterprises and their degree of success. Moreover, already in 1992 Cadbury report was published, which stated that "the level and number of non-executive directors on the board of directors shall be such that their views have made a significant contribution to the decision of the Board of Directors". Later, in 1998, these provisions were reaffirmed in the group, Sir Ronald Hampel of the fundamental principles of corporate governance. However, I venture to suggest that the need for independent directors in the UK there was still earlier than the institution of independent directors. In his article, M. Samosudov concludes that, in speaking of "independence" of directors, "to talk about the independence of judgments of the Board of Directors ( Barratt, 2002, pp.9). That is understood that members of the board of directors and board of directors as a whole should be in every situation to express opinions, make decisions, guided solely by considerations of their own professionalism and efficiency of the company as a whole, but not by considerations of any individual participants of corporate relations. â€Å"Then we come to the following conclusion: the independent director is a highly qualified specialist who can satisfy the needs to implement the functions and exercising the authority of the Board of Directors the most effective way, regardless of the views of various stakeholder groups. Main Body From this definition we can draw three conclusions. First, an independent director - not a position, and the profession, such as, for example, an electrical engineer or an accountant, with all ensuing consequences. Secondly, any shareholder, being of sound mind and memory of, must carry out the appointment of board members only from among the independent directors (the best, besides no one is appointed by, say, a professional accountant to the position electrician). And thirdly, to the service must be approached with the same criteria as any other service or any other product: the light of its value (how effective or that the applicant) and prices (the value of his services). As an option - to hold a competition for filling vacant board member. It is clear that, if we exclude from consideration all animate objects, the "Company" is a mere collection of assets and related liabilities to shareholders and third parties. Therefore, to talk about the "public interest" makes no sense. However, there are a lot of sense to talk about the interests of employees and its top managers. In this case we have to, first, to

Critique - Article Example t, 2000, p.783) The author begins with the conceptual analysis of the resistance to change and describes the process of eventual alteration in employee responses. He presents a summary of different literature on this issue with an approach to critique. It finally talks in favor of a bottom up process of evaluating the responses instead of presenting a simple generalization of the concept. For the purpose of reaching his point the author presents certain concepts and categorizations relevant to the issue. The author introduces the concept of ‘resistance to change’ as, â€Å"critical theorists and labor policy scholars argue that the interests of managers should not be privileged over the interests of workers† (Piderit, 2000, p.783). This simplification of the concept overlooks the complex analyses of the responses from the workers. This also overrules the positive intentions behind some negative responses. Complementing this view Pasmore points out that a resistance is actually a product of interaction or communication between the two agents involved in the change process. He also echoes Piderit’s view that a change need not be a ‘bad’ thing. The agent implementing the change should therefore go back to the background and the objectives of the change process rather than simply trying to overcome the resistance (Pasmore, p.214). In this context the role of leadership is worth mentioning. Resistance has to be worked through or managed by the lead ers in the ideal manner (Markham, 1999, p.16). Power and Eastman (1997) brings up the role of transformational leadership in bringing about organizational change and determining the course along which the change might occur. Transformation leadership can help in implementing change through articulation of the vision adopted by the leader, the followers or subordinates accepting this vision and an analogy stuck between the interests of the followers and the vision projected before them. The role of leadership in

Spectrums in physics - Essay Example Light forms a continuous spectrum but human eyes are only capable of seeing the spectrum of visible light corresponding to â€Å"a wavelength range of 400 to 700 nanometers and a color range of violet through red† (Kusterer, 2007). This means that normal human vision has a limited visual range and can perceive only to such an extent. Among the visible colors, violet has the shortest wavelength at 400 nm. Indigo follows it closely at around 445 nm while the wavelength for the blue light that gives color to the sky measures 475 nm. Green comes next with about 510 nm while yellow follows closely at 570 nm and orange at 590 nm. The last visible color in the spectrum is red, with a wavelength range of 650 nm through 700 nm. The colors with relatively longer wavelengths, red and orange, are usually â€Å"less efficiently scattered† so they are more readily seen at sunrise and sunset. Blue and violet light, on the other hand, are normally scattered. So far, this is the visible and observed spectrum of light of which the normal human eye is capable. (Kusterer, 2007) Since light is a continuous spectra, there are numerous wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum that normal human vision cannot perceive. Some of this light energy includes those with wavelengths that are too short for the human eye to see. These include ultraviolet light and the spectra of light that causes sunburns and the same light used for skin tanning. Another spectra of light which remains invisible to the human eye includes those with wavelengths that are considered too long for normal human vision to perceive. These include infrared light and those that make adjacent things hot such as light energy coming from the campfire or stove burner. Light spectra with very long wavelengths are usually significant in that they â€Å"radiate heat to outer space† for if they do not do so, the solar energy absorbed by the Earth would remain trapped and continue to heat the planet. Analysis Of Scientific c Essay Example for Free

Analysis Of Scientific c Essay The first step in the scientific method is to perform some background research and in the news article (â€Å"Engineers Create New,† 2008). It is implied that this step had been followed because it mentions that other researchers have already made several studies and experiments and have been doing it for several years. It is obvious that the scientists in the current study have performed a background analysis of previous efforts to develop other adhesives. The second step is the formulation of the hypothesis and in this particular news, the hypothesis is whether it is possible to formulate an adhesive that emulates the capability of the hairs on the toes of the gecko lizard that are able to clean themselves without having to use water or chemicals. This would be an interesting result because normally, dirt would stick to an adhesive and it would lose its stickiness in the process. Fearing explains that the ultimate goal is to develop an all-terrain robot that can emulate the gecko lizard that could walk on dirty surfaces along walls and ceilings (â€Å"Engineers Create New,† 2008). The next step in the scientific method is to conduct several experiments to test the hypothesis and the news article provides a rough sketch of the experiments that the engineers had conducted, where they use microfibers made from stiff polymers to represent the toe hairs and microspheres with diameters ranging from three to 10 microns to simulate dirt (â€Å"Engineers Create New,† 2008). After the experiments, an analysis of the results was made, and it was mentioned that it was indeed possible for the microfibers to get rid of some of the dirt after every simulated step of a gecko lizard. As a conclusion, it is indicated that it is possible to make an adhesive that cleans itself but further studies have to be made with other kinds of surfaces because in these experiments, only glass was used. Looking at the scientific soundness of the news article, we can see that there is no mention of the sample size, which is quite common in such kinds of articles. As we can see, this article is lacking in this respect but it could be assumed that this is mentioned in the actual report made by the scientists. As for the control group, there is no specific mention of the researchers actually performing an experiment where common adhesive materials are used instead of the microfibers being studied. The news report is also lacking in this respect but it could have been assumed that it is the common knowledge of the reader that with the usual adhesive, dirt accumulates until it is no longer sticky. In the study, the independent variables are the range of the sizes of the microspheres and the characteristics of the glass surface and the microfibers. The dependent variable is the quantity of microspheres that get deposited on the glass surface every time the simulated step of a gecko is performed on it. Another dependent variable is the adhesion strength of the new adhesive material after several steps have been done. There would be some suspicion of bias in the part of the researchers if a particular result would serve to benefit them. Taken in this light, almost everyone could be suspected of bias but in this study, the scientists are scholars who appear to be genuine in their desires to create something useful for humanity. Reincarnation And Its Psychological Effect On Children Psychology Essay

Reincarnation And Its Psychological Effect On Children Psychology Essay Reincarnation is becoming more and more popular through time it is a broad and interesting debate to discuss and shed light on. Everyone may know a little about reincarnation, but few understand the complexities and how it actually works. Now you can find out how reincarnation really affects us. Reincarnation  is a concept which is common to many religious beliefs and spiritual practices. According to the theory of  reincarnation, when  people  die, some part of themselves lives on in another person. After understanding the meaning of reincarnation and after believing in its existence there is an important hide side in it which interested me to talk about( S.E. Smith 2003) . This research will help us understand how it is important for the parents and the individuals to know the direct and indirect effect of reincarnation on their psychological side. Reincarnation is the belief that a part of our consciousness will continue living after the death of the physical body and will be re-born into a new body here on Earth. The belief of reincarnation is widespread, in fact almost universal in the East, but it has never been that popular in the West. For many people the idea of life after death is very comforting because it lessens their grief and removes their fear of annihilation (Esoteric Science lee bladom 2006). Reincarnation and its psychological effect 3 For others it is a subject that is never contemplated because ignorance is bliss. But whether we believe in it or not, the fact remains that life after death is a certainty because life cannot be extinguished. Problem statement Based on my own experience in reincarnation I became interested in childrens past life memories because when I was young i had memories of other lifetimes I remember parts of previous lives as if they were yesterday . Due to my experience and researches I did, I found three main problems that reincarnated children pass through. One of them is the crash and the illusion that the children pass through in their current life and that is the result of the destruct that happens in their personality since they find it so hard to accept their current parents . Second problem Is the ignorance of the parents due to the lack of knowledge about how it is important to understand and work on their children psychological and believing in what they are passing through. Reincarnation and its psychological effect 4 Third problem is when something that happened to someone in a previous life, has created a phobia in this current life. For the above stated problems, there is a need to find a solution and to make the parents aware from what their children is passing through. Research questions: The following research questions are used to guide the research process: How can events or memories from a past life affect people/children in their current life? How should parents deal with reincarnation if it happens to their children? How do reincarnate people differ from un reincarnate people? Hypothesis: Reincarnation has serious psychological effects on childrens current and future life? Reincarnation and its psychological effect 5 Definitions: The terms that are recurrent in this research includes reincarnation, phobia, ignorance, psychological effect and after death. Reincarnation: The word  reincarnation  derives from the Latin term meaning the re-entering of the flesh. It means the Rebirth of the soul in another body(The American Heritage ® Dictionary of the English Language).Other define reincarnation that there a distinction between reincarnation in the New Age movement and the doctrines that come out of Eastern religions such as Buddhism or Hinduism. While the Western idea of reincarnation, or transmigration of souls, borrows heavily from these two Eastern religions it is cycle of birth, death and rebirth. This differs from the New Age conception of reincarnation because often times in the New Age movement there is no concept of evil or immorality (Chandler 264; Pham 6). Phobia: Social phobia is an anxiety disorder that is accessible to two forms of treatment yielding scientifically validated results: drugs and cognitive-behavioral therapies. Graded exposure to feared social situations is fundamental to obtain an improvement of the anxious symptoms( Jesse Fox, Sun Joo Ahn Oct 2012: 255-271).moreover (Murray stein issued in September)define phobia that is degree of anxiety and stress throughout their lifetimes. Also its is lack of social skills or motivation to improve their interpersonal relationship. Ignorance:   ignorance and uncertainty are usually unwelcome feelings and it is the condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed(The American Heritage ® Dictionary of the Reincarnation and its psychological effect 6 English Language).according to Writer (Thomas Pynchon 2001)Ignorance is not just a blank space on a persons mental map. Psychological effect: Due to the world English dictionary defines psychological as pertaining  to  the  mind  or  to  mental  phenomena  as  the  subject  matter  of  psychology, and  pertaining  to,  dealing  with,  or  affecting  the  mind,  especially  as  a  function  of  awareness,  feeling,  ormotivation:  psychological  play;  psychological  effect. While (  John B. Watson) defines it as Psychology  is an academic and  applied discipline  that involves the  scientific study  of  mental functions  and  behaviors. Literature review: There is a high agreement that reincarnation effects children psychologically, since Past-life memories effects present life in both aspects positive and negative. Positive past experiences can help people to have extra exercises and to be more wise since they lived before. And with respect to the Negative past experiences can lead to aversions and phobias that effect current and future life. Reincarnation and its psychological effect 7 So how much do our past lives affect our current lives?( Josef head) came up in discussion that, something that happened to someone in a previous life, has created a phobia in this current life. this means that pervious life affects children future and current life by building his personality on the phobia that is created and caused by previously experienced and has been carried to our currents lives. For example it could be someone who is fearful of water may have been a drowned sailor in another life and so on. Moon Goddess  on May 31, 2011 at 11:13pm in  Daily Banter posted that he truly feel that he have been here before, at least once. They could not tell us who or what they was previously but he feels that he lived before where it effects him in his current life, Because he is afraid of heights, mildly  claustrophobic, and afraid of particular spiders snakes. Nothing happened in this life to instigate these fears, but they are still there. In addition to all the discussions and points of view( Rules of the House #25e) says that previous life holds through over fears -and said that previous life effects our present and future life psychological by creating for children a social disease called phobia. Moreover they posted If you are terrified by fear to the point you worry about being burned, you have phobia. This Reincarnation and its psychological effect 8 means that you are affected by your past live negatively since you fear fire without ever having experienced it in this life, you have most likely died by fire in past lives. Moreover, as the published author of Hidden Treasures from Past Lives, Barbara explores the ways in which past lives impact our current lives and how to heal the effects. Although the majority of Americans also believes that they have lived past lives, and they are studying how can reincarnation may affects their present life time. Many psychologists and psychiatrists are studying the influence of past lives on their clients such as Barbara has studied their work as well as counseled her own clients in this field. It is Barbaras belief and experience about previous life that is affecting our thoughts, beliefs and the way we behave. And these leftovers from other lifetimes are what may be called legacies. (Barbara k.folts 2010) proposes about the clues that it may be experiencing a legacy right now and about the problems that exists for any reason in our current life. Some possible examples of legacies that Barbara listed are: Abandonment in a past life which leads to hypersensitivity to people leaving you in this lifetime Betrayal in a past life which now appears as a difficulty in your trusting others. Sexual abuse in a past life which leaves you with a legacy of sexual dysfunction in the current lifetime. Being smothered or trapped in a tight space in a past life causing you claustrophobia now Reincarnation and its psychological effect 9 An unexplained symptom, physical, mental, or emotional, that is out of context within your general life A legacy can become part of your personality, the stimulus for your behavior. other researches criticize about reincarnation and past lives such as( Joseph M. Higgins and Chuck Bergman ) that posted the effect of reincarnation is positive since you gain as much experience as possible and u will be able to have many opportunities. In addition that you will be better prepared for that encounter due to the wisdom and experience youve gained. While Dr. Jim disagreed with them since he posted that reincarnate people pass through many negative effects such as destruction in their personality and this will take work and time. Moreover it will be hard for them to continue since they get tired of the journey and that they have to continue until the journey ends. Perhaps the strongest and best documented evidence in support of reincarnation comes from the work of the late Dr. Ian Stevenson (1918-2007), a Virginia psychiatrist of impeccable credentials, who began studying cases about past life memories ,he studies about 3000 cases and all of them are children that are between 4 and 10 years who were able to talk about past lives and all the actions that happens with them in their past lives even they remember the date they Reincarnation and its psychological effect 10 die and the villages they lived in. Additionally, many of the children Stevenson studied could remember how they had died in their previous life providing details Methodology: The current research involves both qualitative and quantative methods since the data collection procedure are based on a questionnaire and an interview. Questionnaire: The first method of data collection is a questionnaire including seven questions which range between yes/no questions and open ended ones. The purpose of these questions is to collect data about the psychological effect of reincarnation on children in their current and future life. It is going to be distributed and administer by the researches herself. Sample investigated includes 30 people from the Shouf area (the sample is random chosen). Reincarnation and its psychological effect 11 Interview: The interview is going to be conducted with two known exerted in field of psychology it includes (3 to 4 questions) about the topic (effect of reincarnation on children current and future life) and their point of view . Conclusion: As a result I strongly believe that reincarnation has a direct effect on children current and future life since it involves in them the feelings of punishment and abandonment as well as their personality will be built on Remnants of mass and on past memories. So here is the parents role to fix and help their children come over their problem.
